AIR TREKKING IN LANGKAWI

WHAT IS AIR TREKKING ? To date (end of 2001), France is the leading European country promoting and organising Air Trekking in its vast forest areas as a popular activity, replacing Canyoning and Bungee Jumping as the hottest new outdoor sports- simply, because it's in the nature trend and suitable for all ages! According to 'Der Spiegel' 35/2000 - a leading German news magazine- Air Trekking has attracted already several thousand participants during the year 2000 summer alone. While in Europe the emphasis on Air Trekking purel is embedded in its adventure aspects, the idea for Langkawi is additionally founded on its environmental and ecological opportunities, as an Air Trekking System enables tourists, scientists, professional and amateur photographers and film teams to discover the rainforest canopy world by day and night from a completely new perspective. Air Trekking in the established form in Langkawi is the first in South East Asia and in this hemisphere ! And imagine : product launches, wedding ceremnoies in the Langkawi rainforest canopy!

Air trekking in Langkawi - The Tour Variations

The Langkawi Air trekking activities enable people of all ages to expand their comfort zones step by step in terms of what and how much adventure is their liking. The whole system is a mix of cables with safety- and brake handrails, platforms, abseil activities and a postmans bridge and offers basically two versions of activity- and adventure level.

Tour version One: Fun Air trekking
This tour version covers the Airtrekking system from platform one/slide one, platform two/slide two, platform three with postman's bridge , abseil passage and the abseil passage to the starting point for the last run, but it excludes the last 120m run and the abseil passage from the last fig tree. After the abseil to the starting point for the last run we will leave the jungle on a track and return to the parking space at the Book Village. This tour version can accomodate 6 airtrekkers at any one time and is covered with two guides. Tour description: this tour version can be mastered by every healthy person with a sense for a new challenge and adventure and there are exits which allow any participants to opt out of the activity, if it seems mentally too demanding in certain parts. Adults and Children (min age: 12 years) RM 120.00 - commission RM 30.00 All the above prices valid till 31 Oct 2002 include insurance (required: name, nationality, IC or passport number) and mineral water, but excluded transportation/transfers from hotel to site and back.

Tour version Two: Canopy Adventure Special
This tour covers the whole of the Airtrekking system inclusive of the last 120m run - let's call it a 'leap of faith'- into a towering 45m overall ficus tree species. The participant has to pull himself/herself into the natural platform (or is pulled in) for a distance of appr. 4m, from where the abseil /rappeling to the ground from the height of approximately 30m will take place. The difference between tour version one and two is simple: after the 'leap of faith' there are no exits anymore, the participant has to do the abseil passage, albeit belayed and backed up form two independent sides!! So: although it is safe, it demands psychologically quite a bit to abseil from a 30m tree in the jungle ! If any participant is aware of this - then: let the adventure begin!
Adults and Juveniles (minimum age: 14 years)

Tour version Three: The Night Canopy Adventure
The jungle is most exciting and full of life in the night! In order to give people a chance to experience this special jungle feeling, we have an early morning tour onto the second platform -using a ladder to climb up- or into the last abseil tree -climbing up via rope ladder-, using platform and tree as an observation tower . This tour version might be the ideal thing for avid bird watchers, adventurers who don't mind a snake crossing their track on the way up to the platform and those who appreciate 'off the beaten track' and new activities. Pickup for this activity would be appr. 4.30 - 5.00 in the morning, depending on the hotel.
