A jewel-like tiny island in the Sulu Sea, an hour & a half boat transfer’s north of Sandakan. Lankayan is soon to be declared part of an immense Marine Conservation Area. Unpopulated and covered by thick tropical rainforest on its topside, this peaceful, untouched little bit of paradise is ringed by an endless pure white sandy beach. Wonderful macro fauna & wrecks and regular sighting of the whale shark from March to May.

After a few emails exchange, they settled for the Mountain Climbing (Via Ferrata), trekking in Danum Valley and finished the programme with a scuba diving experience in Sipadan. Layang-Layang, known as “Swallows Reef” is an atoll situated in the South China Sea 300km north-west of Kota Kinabalu. The island is man-made and was constructed for the Malaysian Navy but now it is of the best diving sites in this region. Main attractions are the regular pelagics, barracudas, turtles & stingrays.

The diving here is pristine and rich with amazing aquatic life. The Sabah government has declared a few years ago that Sipadan Island must be conserved to protect it`s environment. With this, came the end of diving resorts that used to operate on Sipadan. So resorts started to operate in the nearby Islands and one of them is Kapalai.  Now you can dive around Sipadan and the macro paradise of Kapalai “.

MAB32 – 3D2N Diving – Mabul Island

Mabul Island came into the scene after Sipadan island was declared a protected area. All the diving operators have to look elsewhere to provide accommodation. The nearby Islands seem the obvious choice – Mabul & Kapalai Island. Mabul Island provides the best muck diving in the region and macro life here is pretty incredible. You can still dive around the famous Sipadan waters with a permit. A handful of dive resorts operating here.
